After a successful trial, the SA EPA has approved Adbri Cement’s application to increase the use of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) at our Birkenhead manufacturing facility.
The EPA permitted the use of up to 32 tonnes per hour of RDF after a thorough review of all data in our post-trial report.
That is the permitted maximum but it is not expected that we will reach this amount yet.
The trial included comprehensive stack tests and demonstrated that we have the machinery, supply capacity and process capability to increase the use of RDF in an environmentally responsible manner.
RDF is a process-engineered alternative fuel which is produced from material which would otherwise be sent to landfill.
It is engineered from predominantly construction and demolition materials that are sorted and processed at an offsite facility by a third party.
RDF is a critical replacement for fossil fuel, used by cement plants globally to reduce their carbon footprints.
