Update on Adbri Cement’s annual maintenance work

Cement Mill 1 Shutdown maintenance work has been completed and it is back operating again, ahead of schedule. Cement Mill 7 is also operating again.

Work in other parts of our Birkenhead manufacturing facility is continuing with the Shutdown scheduled to finish by 3 February. The Kiln critical path is on schedule and Kiln re-bricking has commenced.

The maintenance and repair work improve our environmental performance and production efficiency.

Simultaneously with the Birkenhead Shutdown, scheduled annual maintenance work on our limestone carrier ship, The Accolade II, is being undertaken at Outer Harbor, adjacent to the Passenger Terminal.

During the Shutdown, up to 500 engineering and trade contractors are on site at Birkenhead to undertake maintenance valued at $22.5 million.

ABC’s parent company, Adbri, directly employs more than 470 South Australians – and indirectly more than 2000 South Australians.

Contractors from other parts of SA (and some from interstate) have come to Birkenhead and are spending money in the Port Adelaide community on accommodation, restaurants, groceries, recreation etc.

Detailed planning has been undertaken to keep any noise disturbance in the local area to a minimum, including installing a noise barrier. See picture with Craig Mackenzie, Advisor Environment – Cement and Lime (SA/NSW/NT)

The Shutdown involves a significant increase in contractors visiting the site each day.
